Soups (Main)

"Soup and sourdough". Sounds good, doesn't it? A cacophony that pleases the palette. Oops! There was another one. Try my soups with my sourdough breads. Freshly baked by you. Right out of the oven. Hot off the stove. Enjoy it with a chilled Riesling. Does life get any better than that?

I got 10 for now but I'll keep 'em coming at you like a pack of blood hounds after a convict. They're all $ 20.00 each and come in a 600 ml jug. Enough to feed 3 people.

YAM & SAUSAGE
This 'yammage' (yam & sausage) came to me after I had the best sausage I've had for many years, and that's kind of funny because I would label myself a sausage hater. So much bigger my surprise when this semi spicy, German/Hungarian style sausage blew my fobia into smitherines and I immediate thought "Hmmm...definitely a good spicy sausage that would go beautifully with a sweet potato/yam," and so our Yammage, or Yam and Sausage soup was born. Try it. Love it. Come back for more.

POTATO BACON
Fresh Russetts. Real bacon from a real pig (No, I didn't kill him. I just grabbed a few slices of bacon from him and then let him roam, again. "Pig out", as they say). A real totenschlager Mozzarella cheese for that creamy texture and then milk, our secret blend of onions, a dash of pepper and a smaller dash of salt, plus a good stock. This one will make your oink your way out to the kitchen for a second serving, guaranteed.

 TANTALIZING TOMATO
Tomatoes on the vine, carrots, celery, our secret blend of onions and then garlic and extra virgin olive oil. A good stock, basil leaves, dash of pepper and a smaller one of salt. We are not tellin you all our secrets or why ours tastes so much better than any other tomato soup you have ever had, but there's a reason we go through the extra expense to get the best vine ripened tomatoes still on the vine. It's amazing what a good, fresh vine will do for you...if you treat it right.

DICK EN'S CHICKENS
"Once upon a time..." H.C. Andersen wrote about 'the feather which became 5 chickens'. Well, ours is 'just a chicken soup', but it's so darn good that that the talk is all over town, too, just like when that Andersen chicken plucked her tiny feather and proclaimed how attractive he, the rooster, surely would find her, now. As the talk spread around town, "5 chickens had plucked themselves to death in a desperate and suicidal attempt to win the attention of the rooster in the coop". Every child in the world should grow up reading HC Andersen and should read it again as adults.
Best stock in town. Beans, carrots, onion, broth, noodles and a whole lotta lovin'. This one will warm your heart, your soul and lift your spirit.

CARROT GINGER
Carrots and Ginger. Two flavours that go together exceptionally well. It's really one of those thing you can "talk about, til the cows come home" but there won't be much justice til you have actually just gone out and tasted it for yourself.
My daughter once told me that carrots are good for your eyes: "Have you ever seen a rabbit with glasses?", but it's very well documented that ginger is good for your immune system. Carrots for your eyes, maybe not so well documented but they are certainly good for your overall health, as well.

BRAWNY BEEF
I hate to brag, but this one is pretty damn good. There, I did it. I just contradicted myself, but no rules without exceptions. The soup, itself, the broth, is so flavourful and delicious, and the we don't skimp on neither the beef meat, the beans, the leeks, the carrots, the onions  nor the 'secret' ingredient, but everything we use is fresh and perfectly prepared and that's how you get the best soup. I mean...the best.

OKANAGAN ONION
Really, it should be called Okanagan onion soup because it's made with local, Okanagan Sauvignon Blanc white white and to those who think it's going to taste like eating raw onion I say this: You will have your mind blown. This one is so good and yummy you will not believe it's onion. Cook onions properly and they will get sweet. Add a little wine and you will go "Wow! This is awesome".

DIJON POISSON
Ain't nuttin' fishy about this one: It's very fishy, indeed, but even fish need company. That's why they swim in schools, if you get what I mean or know about fish terminology? Anyway! They  need company and so we added just a plunk of Dijon mustard and a snort of dill weed and man, is it ever good.

MONSERRAT SQUASH
When you are in love with somebody, we like to get 'squished' a little bit. It feels good. Well, this one will totally squash you and it's absolutely awesome. A dash of paprika and a plonk of yogurt raise the pitch of this lady to the high C. This is Freddy Mercury & Monserrat Caballe on your taste buds.

BEET & CHARD
When you are tired of superficial living and you long to get rooted to Mother Earth again, this is the soup you want. Chunky and packed with natural scarlet colour from the beets, this one has a very distinct earthy flavour from the red beets and the turnips, roto-tilled with fresh red Swiss chard. This one would go really well with glass of chilled white wine.
